Fresh Water

It only takes a day to make a massive change. No matter how often these changes happen though, there seems to be only one direction to go: forward.

When I was 17 I was hit head-on by a moped driving directly in my lane. I was driving a quad. I lived in the carribean and it was legal to drive these types of motor vehicles on the highway. I was thrown over the handlebars and onto the street. I woke up on the side of the road unable to move my left wrist, and blood pouring from the back of my head. That was a day of many changes. 7 stitches to the back of the head, I had lost my sense of smell completely. I was on a flight to Canada 2 days later. My parents told me there were threats for me, and my safety was in danger. I had thrived and survived in a fifth world country for 7 years, from 11 to 17, and now my life was at risk... This was the beginning point in my lfe where I stopped fighting. I did what they wanted, and I left. Carrying my luggage all in my right hand as my left was still stiff and in a brace.

When I was 18 I got in a major car accident. My vehicle was written off, as it landed upsidedown on the highway. That day held massive change for me. It was the first time I had lived on my own with no vehicle. I went from walking zero hours a day on average, two walking 2-3 hours a day on average. But just as quickly as the change errupted upon me, I was able to respond.

When I was 19 I dreampt of Toronto, and fame. I jumped on a greyhound bus that took me from Fort St. John to Toronto. It was a 48 hour ride. Yet again my life had been completely changed.

When I was 20 I moved to Kelowna. I spent months working 2-3 days a week, and hours sitting on the sandy shore of the Okanagan Lake, processing change. I had an infinite amount of time for my ever pondering mind. It thanked me with a gratitude that shined beyond me, and outward to the world. I felt happy. I felt like I made it.

There were a few more changes in between, but the big change is now. This is my second day in Calgary, and for some reason I'm more excited than the first! Sometimes when these changes come I feel like I've just dipped my head into a lake of freshwater. It's refreshing to know that life is full of change, and the quicker you can adapt, the easier it will be for you.
