Calgary Week Two

Two weeks into settled in Calgary life. I can comfortably say I am aware of the route to and from the work place. This place is large. Filled with an infinite amount of artistic and creative individuals. My house is almost completely decorated. There are candles on every shelf and table top. Throws cover the couches and bed, and the tvs have been mounted and set up. It's cozy. From my basement experience, it can get chilly down there. Today I woke up to a warm and magical zero celsius. Its one of the warmest days I've experienced since I've been here. Yesterday was -26.

90% of the photographers I have met with so far have their very own studio space. I prefered to do studio work in the winter, even when I lived in the Okanagan. Living in Calgary has taught me that indoor winter work is more than a preference, it is necessary. A ten minute walk in the -27 is about as much as I can take.

On another note off that same thought, I feel obligated to take advantage of the opportunity I have of shooting in Banff. It is so close to Calgary. I haven't been yet, but I hear that the winter scenery is breathtaking. With a preplanned concept, and a preheated car, I'm sure I could brave out a mini session.

After quite a bit of patience and antisipation I received my new schedule. I feel like it could not be better suited to my lifestyle in this very moment. I was concerned that If I start up on a fulltime schedule I would lose important network and model time. I was considering a part time position that allowed me a minimum of two days for meeting/shoots with Clientel. As the schedule was completed, I was told I would receive 3.5 days off every week. That is so much more creative time than I'm used to that I went and bought a yoga matt. I am so excited to use this new-found time and energy to grow as a model and designer.

I have had an amazing time contact/concept building So far. Fabulous meetings over coffee discussing ideas, motives, and inspiration. The flow of energy and creative thought is continuous, and expansive if explored with like-minded forces. Its an exciting year for my model self. I am amazed by the passionate and creative individuals I've been able to meet in my first few weeks of Calgary life. I look ahead with a huge excitment of my portfolio to follow. New names, new looks, and new genres. And also an impecible extension to several of the pre-existing genres.
