March was an adventurous and busy month which pertained to many figure drawing sessions, private studio sessions, 14 + photo shoots, and a runway. Towards the end of march I felt a bit of angst towards the lack of progression within my new couture collection. I had hoped to have done more, but don't know how I could've based on the amount of time I set aside to (not enough). By the 29th I was beyond aware of the fact I that I want more pieces, and I needed to create more time to make them. Coming into a new collection is really inspiring for me, as I get to formulate multiple looks and ideas that somehow combine to make what I call them (a collection), whether it be by color scheme or style.

I feel like I've talked about it already, but my couture collection is a bit more dark and edgy than my last collection (Floral Frippery). I created Floral Frippery in a time and space where I appreciated that light and fantasy mindset: Cloudy, smooth, bright, cheery, milky, soft, that sort of thing. My new collection has blossomed into something very different: Dark drama, elegance, sophistication, femininity, length, texture, firmness, and power. Key colors of this collection so far are gearing towards black and gold. I'm barely 4 pieces in though I must warn you. I suppose considering the date (april 03) that 4 pieces is a great start. My goals are large what can I say.

I have a short list of models that have expressed interest in my line. Because of the matching tendency of my last collection, I wanted to have several models on hand both for diversity in advertising, and for group shots ( to showcase multiple pieces within the collection). It's been fun to gather and pick models that I know will really bring my pieces to life. As I create the piece, I usually get a feeling for who will wear it for me, and also who will photograph it to its prime (in my perspective). It's amazing to have the resources and be linked to so many crazy creative people. I feel like each piece I make becomes more details and expressive than the last, and I appreciate the aspects of myself that I see in the pieces. I am inspired to know how many possibilities there are for clothing, whether it be through textile, or style/shape of make. Time escapes me in my craft room as I sew, nip, tuck, and plan to capture my newest and most ambitious designs.

As April progresses I continue to search for photographers that have an interest in conceptual photography. I am looking to create concepts of depth and perspective and originality, both for my collection, and also for my blog. Keep your eyes peeled as I open a new segment (tab) on my my website for my couture collection. The first piece was shot in march. I could not be more thrilled about it. The main piece was a jacket, made primarily of paper. I also whipped out one of my newest headpieces to support the line. I anticipate all headpieces to match on some aspect as well. I anticipate that aspect to be volume (if you see the jacket set you'll understand..) Next week the three of us (Steve Osmond, Heather Paige, and myself) will team up and shoot one of my final pieces from my previous collection : Floral Frippery: The Katie. I loved working with the both of them on the couture set. Energy was high and exciting, and leaves me anticipating our next project will be equally as great.

I will be trying to make more of an effort to post photos of my work before its finished. I think that will add a larger effect to the finished pieces, especially after they've been shot & edited.

Below are a couple of sneek peaks from a few of the projects I did in March. YAY!
