Sheer and Shimmery feels

What happened to June? We've crossed the half way mark already, but I feel like the month is still young and fresh, with much creative contribution to come.

A few weeks ago I approached my photographer friend Kevin Cripps with an idea that was a bit out of the ordinary for me. I had been feeling very inspired by another photographer friend of mine in BC. Her name is Lexy Parks. She shoots the most beautiful landscape photos with herself perfectly focused and posed in the middle. Often there is a piece of fabric, or a dress floating in the wind. These images entangle me. I am in awe of her work ethic, and skill level, and ability to be so consistent over time. I've been chatting with Lexy about her Calgary travel plans this summer. We did so many projects together during my time in BC. We grew and learned, adjusting our technique and perspective as we went.

The ideas that I pitched to Kevin were inspired by her. I have just recently purchased a new and quite broad selection of free flowing sheer fabrics. My intention with these beautiful and pastel colored pieces is to create absolutely stunning ens-ambles that can flow freely in both wind, or studio fan. I wanted to take the pieces out before I had a chance to put them on the mannequin or contort them into what I wanted them to be. First I wanted to see how they flow. First I wanted to see how they would be perceived in action, which way they would flow, what colors would go best together, etc.

The date we chose for the project could not have been better. Although there was some heavy rain at the beginning of the trip which caused a bit of second guessing, the overcast clouds created the perfect natural lighting. We didn't have to worry about lighting changes or shadow control. The cool breezes hit me hard and gave me goosebumps, but looking back in the photos I can see that the cool weather only help emphasize a more genuine and natural emotion. The project was a huge success. I have a great idea of how the fabrics flow, and which colors I can combine to create the most immaculate gowns. Looks like it down to the craft workshop from here to start building!

ALSO: one of our photos from the set was featured on instagram...... You can see the link here https://www.instagram.com/p/BGuI9r0stl4/?r=1438317046

I've attached a few of my favorites from the set, I hope you enjoy them. Kevin & I definitely enjoyed creating the set.

My significant other, Michael, will be celebrating he 21st birthday this weekend. For the occasion, we have driven to Kelowna and will be celebrating this fabulous time until Sunday. We will head back to Calgary for a fresh week of work and adventure in the morning that day.
