Special Places & Spaces

Because of my short-term time in Calgary (1 year), I decided to refine my network by only working with Calgary talent. Knowing since before my arrival that my time here would be limited, and that the network is significantly larger than where I come from, I did not want to feel overwhelmed by the wide array of artists that I desire to work with. Before even arriving, I thought I thought through most of the pros and cons of the 3.5 hour drive to Edmonton. Deciding against the drive, and the alternate location that could ultimately add too much clutter to my life, I held no expectation to work with Edmonton talent.

Last week, however a photography by the name of Jesse Therrien did a post announcing his visit to Calgary. Usually he resides in Edmonton, but was up for a special occasion and was looking to shoot if possible. I went to his portfolio and was highly amused both by the editorial feel of his photos, and the sharp and clear standard he held. I sent him a message expressing interest in collaboration, and we ignited a plan. We quickly compiled a few ideas together, and headed out to a space that I found to be visually inspiring. Knowing and trusting Jesse's level of skill allowed me to flow naturally without worrying what might be happening behind the lens.

For the look I decided to go a bit more dark and edgy. I'd been to the location several times before and had a spectacular understanding of the environment and feeling. I've been loving the way set and wardrobe can combine to make something amazing if done properly. I work on this tactic whenever I possibly can.

Needless to say, I was very happy with the turn out of our very quickly planned project. There was not 1 photo in the set I did not like. It was beautiful to be able to work with a bit of Edmonton's talent, without having to leave the comfort of an area I've have only but begun to understand. Jesse was super easy going yet focused on his goal of adding the perfect frames to his portfolio. He gave me many that I am able to use for mine and I wish the same for him. I highly recommend his talents and have already requested his notification for his next visit.
