I bought insurance for my computer towards the middle of 2014. I had asked the sales guy to find me the most original laptop they had. He led me to something I was very pleased by, but I was a little bit concerned about the fact that it was the last one of that particular version, also the shelf display, also an open box return. I wondered what might have caused the previous owner to be unhappy with the item. I found it so visually appealing. So I let him tell me his per-scripted dribble about insurance, what you get, what you pay, etc.
Honestly, the guy was a pretty good salesmen. He told me I could put my laptop in the freezer right before my insurance ended, bring the laptop in, and get a brand new replacement piece right before my insurance cap-puts. Who tells someone to do that? I did like the idea of getting my months worth out of the insurance though, So at 25.00/$ a month for 3 years, I bought the insurance. Do the math on that, your looking at about 900 $ ( the price of 1 new laptop).
It was no more than 4 months into my laptops early life that it was sent back to the geek squad for repair. I'd had a water spillage on the keyboard that had completely stopped the keyboard from working. The squad gave me a replacement computer for the time it was sent away, and had it completely restored and intact for me to pick in within the next 2 months. This disaster alone would have been enough for the insurance coverage to pay itself off. This disaster, was only the first. At least 2 more repairs over the next year and a half, leading up to know. What is most interesting to me about this breakdown is that I felt it coming on. I had backed up all my files just weeks ago, and my computer had been giving my vibes of wear and tear continuously since. Pages took longer to load, pages became unresponsive more frequently, then one morning it happened very suddenly. My baby laptop plummeted into what seemed like sudden death. I picked it up from its place beside my bedside in the AM to get into my routine to find the device completely unresponsive. First it would not turn on. Then I realized it wouldn't accept charge either. I rushed it to the nearest geek squad. The man at the desk opened my folder and looks to me : "looks like you've gotten your moneys worth here" he says to me as he rummages through a large pile of repair sheets. He confirmed my still active insurance, and let me know I still have a remaining 6 months of coverage. He then filled out all forms efficiently whilst having an adult political conversation with me to pass the time. I left the store completely satisfied, knowing they would be calling me any day to tell me my original device is coming back to me, completely refreshed and like new.
Honestly, having this insurance on my laptop has been one of the biggest loads off my mind over the past 3 years. I give the geek squad a very high recommendation. I love the service that they offer. The idea of not having to worry about the tech-fails is very positive and liberating to me. It is no longer a panic or strain when my laptop is damaged. It is simply a ride to the nearest best buy and a friendly chat with the squad. I'd say 100% if you have the opportunity to get coverage for your laptop... it pays for itself, and then some. Everybody loves some good savings. Get some.
