As August wraps up I look back on the months projects in reflection and gratitude of a massive month of work and content. I came into the month hoping to meet and work with new names, and new contributors. I look to September feeling as though I did just that. Time spent behind the sewing machine was of increase as well. I've spent more time thinking about what fashion and design mean to me. I think about the relationship I share with fabric. The fascination I have with the different textures and patterns. I felt an increase in inspiration for design, and an increase in custom orders in the past month alone. The increase in custom designs has inspired me to restructure certain aspects of website and shape it into a more design/fashion focused space.
Last week started off rainy and slow, but ended fluidly and filled with creative projects. I don't know if I've ever lived in a place with such unpredictable weather. I'm sure I won't miss that when Mike and I return to BC in just 3 months. On a high note, Curt Pitter and I shot a week or so ago. This collaboration exceeded my expectations. I can't remember how many outfits I'd put together by the time the night was through, but it was anywhere from 5-8. Pumped up on a collection of 5 or so highly inspirational photos and the amazing Heather Paige from Obsidian artistry on board for hair and makeup, this project took a turn for the absolute best. I'm on the fence about whether these photos will be released, or whether we will submit them for consideration.
Looking into the future, I submitted my collection to an event committee that is planning an elaborate runway event in late October. My collection was accepted and I will be spending the next month.5 perfecting and finishing off my dream 8 piece collection. I will also be focusing on other details, like accessories, shoes, hair and makeup, models, runway music, and photography crew. I feel like I have been working towards this event all throughout the year, regardless of the fact I just found out about this event.
Its been amazing to have a consistent and increasing amount of landscape nude work. The crazy nature of the weather makes it difficult to make outdoor plans. I feel as though I was not forewarned about it at all. I can't wrap my mind around how seasonal businesses such as landscaping, etc can make a living in this kind of unpredictable weather. I look into September hoping for as much warmth as possible. I know it won't be much longer until I'll be plunging towards studios more and more . In the winter I try to shoot outdoors as much as possible. I'm not apposed to an outdoor concept, but I do feel I come across them less and don't look for them as often.
On another note, the geek squad still has my laptop. What I thought was the most convenient thing ever quickly turned into a largely hassle-filled task in only a couple weeks time. I think its ready for pick up, and my goal is to be done with the squad by the first of September. I miss my laptop. Its also really convenient and nice to have all my images and work compiled in files that are right in front of me, as opposed to having to use the hard drive like a USB.
Over the next few days I'll be checking in with some of my most favorite local model friends to see who is interested/available in modelling my collection when it launches on the evening on the 23 of October. Over the next month I will be finishing off my collection of 8 complete pieces & sets that will walk the runway. No sweat as I have 5 pieces 100% finished. A little secret about this collection is that the corresponding colors will be green, black, and gold. I will also spend the next month envisioning the way the colors will blend and work together to create the theme and attitude of the set. All in all, this is a very exciting process.
