A Walk On The Bright Side With Jen

Yesterday morning I woke up to a wonderful surprise of a new dropbox folder from last months set with Jen Freedman. I like to shoot with Jen as much as possible because her creative flow is unceasingly inspiring. Also she is fun. This shoot came into effect with less planning than usual. It's nice to shoot and collaborate more than once with those who inspire you, I find, because the planning only gets easier and more efficient. It was the perfect day, the perfect weather, and the perfect amount of street traffic = very little.
Featured in this set you'll see three pieces made in the studio this season. The exclusion from this set are the black high waisted pants provided by Jen. All other clothing/costume pieces were handmade here in Calgary. I look forward to using October as an opportunity to share and communicate more about a bit of my reasoning and passion for design: where it comes from and what my mission and intention is.
First though, I'd to talk more about this set:
I never noticed the writing on the wall until Jen sent the set to me. Someone wrote "apple" on the wall, with an apple. I assume this because I was there in that same place just weeks ago and I bit into one of the crab apples from the tree above and its insides were flaky and old - yellow, just like the writing on the wall. I love that it says "apple". The photos where it is visible provoke so many questions for me. My mind travels momentarily to a present "2016 city of Eden modern day Eve" set. Then things almost become scientific. I think of the string theory. Have you heard about it? It blows my mind. You can learn a bit about it here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S8sbzA5j2Tk

* I will be uploading these pieces into my collection showcase tabs later TODAY.

*I'm contemplating creating a new tab for costume and "trash the dress" designs. I think it'd be nice to have a space to showcase some of the pieces that I make for more of a "one-time" basis or daring projects. I love these projects. My feather dresses have really allowed me to branch out creatively this season, and I plan to do more with them still.

UNRELATED:
Yesterday's class at Midlake Art Studio was absolutely fabulous. I was so grateful to be submerged in such a creative environment with some many artists who inspire me to be and do more. We are not quite halfway through our long pose study. It's excited and amazing to watch the drawings and paintings transform and become what the artist had intended them to be.
Starting into my communications about what initially inspired me to become a designer I look to a film called "The true Cost". You can find this documentary on netflix if you are interested in watching it. Its mostly about H & M and some other companies and overseas manufacturing and how they connect and what effect it has on people both in the US and Canada and in the impoverished places where the manufacturing is happening.
This week I will continue to pose at both private and public institutions for ongoing sessions. The snow has altered my desire to shoot outside, but I've already started working on my transferring my creative energy to indoor places and spaces to ensure that flow continues at the same pace, and faster as I work to smooth out the creases and learn from my mistakes to become more and better.
Happy thanksgiving by the way <3
October has been and will continue to be beautiful.
