It's been a creative Wednesday/Thursday. Fabrics strung along the floor of the sewing room. Ideas flowing. Designs growing in complexity and functionality. It holds the perfect balance of creativity and clutter. As it cools in temperature by the day I plunge into a winter wear collection (which is a very new and exciting experience for me). The more tailored pieces take up more time and more usually a great amount of fabric as well.
Thursday night hit me with a bit of a curve ball in that Facebook itself sent me a notification pertaining to my name. I took a snapshot of the prompt so that you can see exactly what was said to me:

In attempt to resolve this issue and move onto the next set, I experimented with both options ( thank the higher universe for the back key) . Neither option gave me an opportunity to explain myself. Neither option gave me any option to keep my current name. The general consensus is that people know this is an alias, and when I signed up for facebook there were no strict requirements for what my name needed to be. Below is a photo of the feedback I am given when I openly tell the truth which is that Sunray Suzie is not my LEGAL name:

This isn't paragraph isn't about identity as much as it is about how complying and having to change my name could throw off my process of posting and sharing content as people will not recognize my name and may not know how to find me. Others who have gone through this same process have expressed the same concerns.
This photo is the prompt after I enter my name and press next:

When I clicked the tab that specifies the type of ID's which are acceptable, two pieces must be government (with photo attached). Since when do I need to provide government ID to be a part of facebook? I did some research to find some other people that had been through similar processes as me and found a whole page about it on wikepedia ( say what you will, I appreciated the relatability.) You can see some of the highlights of the link here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Facebook_real-name_policy_controversy
I felt a little bit behind, researching and realizing that most policies went into effect lat year. All I can really do at this point is try to catch up as quickly as possible. For starters, I will be deleting my facebook account by the end of the day. A morning full of research yesterday left me feeling like there may be better places for me to share my content (like here, my website, which you can subscribe to), and other places. If you want/ need to keep in touch with me for business/creative/friend purposes, send me a message with your email/phone #. Also know I will still be here on my website.
UNRELATED:
last night I received a few from my most recent set with Jen Freedman. The whole shoot was focused around boudoir/lingerie, most of the pieces coming from my newest collection. I can't wait to share these photos under my " practical pieces" tab. This set is so diverse and full of light! I never get tired of working with Jen, she is innovative and willing to try new things behind the camera. I've also recently uploaded new designs there(practical pieces). I plan to use a bit of the time I used to use on facebook for a more consistent website presence. It's hard to explain the details of my vision but I'm confident these changes with show in my website pages and in my posts.
I am excited for this change as I've already had many thoughts of how I can transform my networking to a different form, as I will be losing what some might consider to be a major source of networking. I've weighed the pros and cons and I'm happy to say goodbye to this platform (facebook), knowing there are others that will be better suited to me and my needs, and also that they give me value, as a customer/user. I also have model mayhem, which has a moderator message strand in the case that your account has any disfunctions or is hacked, you have the opportunity to communicate with the moderator and discuss how the issue might be resolved.
