Last weekend Mike and I took a trip up to Calgary for a family members surprise birthday party. We drove up Friday morning/afternoon, and returned through out the day on Sunday. We had awesome weather both ways, with sun and blue skies. Snow slushed on the sides of the highway but the roads themselves were clear. It felt awesome to get out of town for a few days. I don't think I've really left the city apart from that trip and I was reminded how nice a trip and change of scenery can be every now and again. Family traveled from all over the country and even outside of Canada to be there, and it was really special to spend the weekend with so many fantastic individuals. Coming back into town we tried to leave a bit earlier in the morning, knowing we both had loaded schedules coming into the new week.

Monday - Thursday this week I've been doing lots of figure modelling for classes and first year students. It's been very fluid and full of learning. Now I've got work in other crafty spaces through the weekend and straight into the new week. It's a busy time but it feels good. The new year has been full of opportunity and surprise.

Throughout the month the wood surface paintings have continued and advanced. I've finished three, and I've got two more on the go. I've put some photos in this post, as well as a new album in the green magick section. I know it's early to be posting a January album but it's been such a great month for photo taking and nature observing.

Last week I shot with a photographer I've never worked with before. It was fantastic. We met for coffee before the new year and planned concepts and ideas. It was nice to start off the new year with a fresh shoot. Our plans were somewhat diverted when the location we had in mind became very busy, but nature rescued, and we were able to capture some really beautiful images. I've realized that even the simplest of locations can be manipulated by the magnificence of the camera lens. I suppose I should creative a 2018 album for shoots/ creative works. I'll post when it happens.

I stopped at fabric land in west K but was underwhelmed by my finds (none). Feeling uninspired by what's on the shelves brings me back to my own drawers and bins full of fabrics I've collected over the past few years. With summer in mind I'm excited to create some classics, for myself, and whoever else may be interested. I've been sketching in lots of my spare time over the past few days, jotting ideas and thinking more directly about the types of pieces I'd like to be wearing and why. I'm excited to start with this project as it has a lot of potential.

Here are some of my most recent paintings. Finished and in progression.
