Winter Infinity

Yesterday yielded heavy snow throughout the morning/afternoon. Into the night the snow faded leaving optimism. Into the morning came more snow and much already fallen on the ground. I've been looking forward to Imbolc since the new year and am not sure how to celebrate the mark of new spring if spring is not here. February 1st is just a few days away and I'm fairly sure all this snow won't clear in time. Especially if it does not stop falling.

I've been grateful for a day at the house today, with no scheduled classes or activities. It's snowed practically nonstop since before my waking this morning and it goes nowhere. It just falls and sits where it is, building on what has already fallen. I presume anyone working in the snow shoveling industry is stoked. It will be a very busy week for them for sure. I'm hopeful the roads will be cleared by earlier tomorrow morning, which is when my day will be starting.

Inside, Mike and I had an amazing breakfast strata. We've been watching the Canadian cooking channel and we think it's pretty great. So many options and variations in food prep. It's great for ideas and inspiration. After breakfast it was time to do some laundry, and then get to some craftier things. I painted the base layer on my oldest mannequin. I'm going to be finishing up some of my unfinished dresses from the past year, as well as making some new ones for the later part of the summer. It's exciting to have new plans in effect to build around and look forward to.

On the serger, I finished a denim summer outfit yesterday. I'm excited to be able to model it in the summertime, along with all the other pieces I've been making but unable to showcase due to winter weather. I could do a studio setup but I like the nature as an enhancer to the garments I finish. It's a really important part of my building process. I've got some drawers and bins set aside with pieces that can be shot in warmer weather. I feel I have a bit of a head start on the summer season this year. It's a good feeling. My sister had also worked on a hand-sewn project that she felt required a few machine touches. I smoothed over it with the serger in about 5 minutes and the pants were good to go. I'm so happy to have the serger as one of my creative tools. It's such a machine.

Tomorrow I'm back at CATO for an afternoon class. It's been great going there over the past few months and meeting and connecting with so many different artists.

The past few weeks my camera's barely left my hand. It's been fun to pay extra attention to my creative side and be reassured the pictures are great to have, both for memory and for inspiration. With Mike and I I moving constantly over the past 3 years, photos really help put things into perspective. We've lived in many different places and done many different things. It's good to remember.

Today's photo is one of many from this months shoot with Lahue photography.
