Another month coming to end with snow still on the ground. It feels strange for the Okanagan. February always feels fast because most of the time it has less days than the other months. This February has felt faster because I've set goals and targets for upcoming trips and life changes that have led to quite a packed up schedule.
I just finished up a two day portrait workshop in the mission. I had the pleasure of meeting and working with Ingrid Christensen. She is so talented and cares so much about her craft. My model stand overlooked the Okanagan lake and it sparkled in the sun. The room was filled with motivated and passionate individuals and the workshop really was spectacular. I've been doing classes regularly over the past two years, so the workshop was a really nice change up from my usual routine. It brought me memories of other workshop I've done and enjoyed as well.
Blair has confirmed with me that two of his paintings ( that I modeled for) will be on display at the Lake Country Art Gallery from March 01 - April 01 of this very year! I'm excited to have teamed up with Blair Dunlop to make this happen. He has painted many spectacular pieces from our work together and it's exciting to be able to share it with the community.
Last week I stumbled upon yards and yards of fabric in colors and tones that really called out to me. I found several yards of several colors that I think will make spectacular pieces for some upcoming trips Mike and I have planned. I plan to spend some time by the pool and amongst the nature and I would definitely like to have a few handmade stunning pieces to match the scenery. I've already began creating pieces from the fabric. Working on the serger these days I feel a lot more confident and comfortable with my work ethic. I love that machine and have found ways to create an almost seamless effect on my garments.
I've been reading a book called " the 7 virtues of a philosopher queen" (not done yet) but it was written by a woman from Nova Scotia. I love learning about her story and ability to be involved in the business world. I'm inspired and excited to continue learning about these virtues. I've already uncovered many resources inside the book linking to female philosophers and people of impact that I've never heard of or learned about before. It's nice to be able to read in between thing things I have going on. I find I do some of my best reading in between classes or projects; If I arrive to an engagement or meeting early, a book can be a great little filler of time.
Heading into March I'm relieved to have a more regular month ahead (filled with a few more days) and, yes still, I am hopeful for warmer weather. I'm basically booked right into the end of my time here, but the warm weather would definitely allow and open opportunities for shooting before I leave BC.
Below are some photos I took during the Sunday/Monday portrait workshop :)
