Life

They say life is what happens when your busy making plans. I find truth here.

Last Monday I drove to Starbucks for what I hoped would be a blog session. As I exit the vehicle my right index finger got caught in the door. I felt I went into instant shock as I continued walking away and did not realize my finger caught until being pulled back by the force if it jammed between my fully closed and sealed door. Blood seeping from the door, my heart-rate increased heavily and an extremely light headed feeling covered me, as if I might faint. I opened the door and retrieved my discombobulated finger. I return to the drivers seat where I search for paper towel and try to remember how to breath. Not knowing how to tend the wound I figured I should get myself to the nearest walk in clinic. I remembered one a few intersections up the highway and thought it was worth the chance.

I left the parking lot slowly, making sure there wasn't anything I was missing closer by. A drug store off to the corner of the development caught my eye so I circled around. Sure enough, the Turtle Bay Medical Clinic was right next door. Still searching for my breath, I park the car and quickly gather my things, feeling strangely unattached to any of them. Face-paced walking towards the clinic, I open the door with eyes on the prize, the nurses/consult people at the front. I glance to the side/waiting area on my way in to see what looks like rows and rows of waiting patients. I remove the paper towel and lift my hand over the nurses counter, my head hanging down towards the floor. At this point I'm not sure my legs will support my quivering body. The nurse asks for my identification and I point to my bag. Seems strange to let a stranger rummage through my wallet but I felt she was doing me a favor as I didn't have the strength or hands to do it in that moment. I could tell she was a professional and I trusted her completely. Looking at the end of my finger all I could see was blood and skin out of place. I didn't know which way things would go. The nurses quickly took me to a room where I wait for the doctor. From there things proceeded smoothly. The doctor assessed the wound within 10 minutes and from there I needed an ex ray to check whether or not it was broken. All was said and done very quickly. Mike met me at the house in between the clinic and the ex ray and drove me so that I could start my pain medication. Ever since I've done my best to lay low/heal.

Suns out bright and somewhat warm today. There is still a cool winter wind in the air but after days of grey it feels great to see the sun. Last 1-2 days in Kelowna and I'm feeling very excited to move onto the next stage of life with Mike in Calgary. I'm sorting photos this afternoon and packing up the last items that don't have homes/boxes yet.I'm glad I started when I had time. It's give me the opportunity to make sure everything's been stowed properly and in an organized way. Also plenty of time for cleaning and ridding the space of dust. Day-to-day stuff really.

Today I've posted some plant photos from my time at the greenery with my sister yesterday.
