August

Good morning!

I'm relieved and grateful to see the sun after a very stormy week. Lots of thunder and lightening the past few days, which is something I've never really gotten used to. During the summer patches I've harvested many herbs from the garden. The large portions of rain cause the plans to sprout rapidly, and I always jump at the opportunity to collect a fresh batch of herbs. I've acquired a great stock of wormwood, dill, yaro, and sage. The list of health benefits these herbs offer is long and diverse. My chocolate mint plant is also looking plentiful and I am currently exploring different ways of harvesting it.

From the way the first few days of August somehow slipped by, it is apparent to me that August may be another quick-feeling month.

I'm hopeful for more warm, summery weather as we' re not quite into the fall season. My neighbor and I have made plans to do some basket weaving around fall time when it's less scarring to the tree's to remove excess branches. We've got some really beautiful and large trees in the yard and I'm exciting to make some vessels for nature gathering/around the house. I was taught to weave when I was quite young in Haiti. I'm fairly certain my neighbor already knows how. I'm excited to see what my memories will bring to me as I try to basket weave again after a long break.

After weeks & months of up-cycling/ designing and re-designing, I've taken about a week so far from working on new designs. I've taken a more thoughtful, observatory perspective as I try to reach deep inside myself and understand what I truly want to be designing and bringing into reality. I'm proud of the pieces I've formed into collections and made for clients over the years. I'm confident that taking time to clarify and organize mentally is a great place to be before heading back to the cutting table. I find it feels really good to just think clearly about the vision. Recently I've felt pulled back to the really "wearable" aesthetic. I will hold it in my mind for a while and see where it takes me.
