Fall Harvesting

Happy Fall!

This morning is super relaxing and mellow coming out of a rainy but cozy and warm weekend. One of the many things I love about fall are the many opportunities to create warmth throughout the house and everywhere. Everything is cooling off. That means it's candle season at my house.

Throughout the summer season I collected a few kerosene lanterns to add to the mix. I grew up having these lanterns around the house. The power was unpredictable overseas and kerosene could be purchased at any gas station to fill the lamps. I love the set I have so far and I look froward to building on the collection. Filling the lamps here in Canada in 2018 is a bit of a different process. Kerosene isn't really sold at gas stations to my knowing and it seems sort of rare over here. Instead I use a standard lamp fluid. It came in a fairly large container so I assume it will last me well into next year. The fluid is meant to be used outdoors as it's not really good to inhale. On the plus side, it has a citronella scent to keep the mosquitoes away.

In the garden leaves and stems are gradually changing from green to yellow. I've spent the past two weeks gradually separating and transferring some of my favorite herbs into jars. The collection of jars now sit on the windowsill above the bed and get the suns rays all throughout the day and as the sun sets.

I'm hopeful and optimistic they will continue to grow and thrive throughout the season and into the new year. I work to add to my collection of indoor plants daily. I know that soon the weather will be cooling and my plants will by dying/ drying up for the winter season.

I realize it's been a little while since I updated 2018's portfolio.

I plan to head to that page from here, as I have received many albums and work I'm happy to share.

Here are some photos of some of the mint chocolate I harvested over the weekend. Mint chocolate is one of my favorite garden teas from the year. It has felt so good to get into the lifestyle of going out to the garden to grab a couple leaves for a tea. On harvest days I collect bigger batches and dry them for storage throughout the year.
