I realize I haven't been talking too much on behalf of my designs and work as a seamstress lately. I wanted to make sure to touch base on the subject as designing and sewing has continued to remain a very regular and constant part of my life. This year I've had more opportunity than ever to work on real projects and designs for people with custom ideas and needs.
I have been quite satisfied by the process and the opportunity to work with and connect with others in such a creative way.
I am so grateful to work with many local women with have brought forward some truly unique and wonderful thoughts and ideas for their wardrobes. I then work to bring those ideas to life based on their preferences to ensure it aligns with their vision.
In communicating and learning about the needs and ideas of others, I have developed some new styles and techniques that I use to create and finish the designs.
A friend came to me with some wardrobe favorites she envisioned in different colors and patterns. She enjoys the creative process and envisioning which garments would look best in which color/pattern. She brings me her original favorite garment, along with the fabric/color envisioned for the refreshed version, and I replicate the original for her. I enjoy the creative process as well as the opportunity to share it with another who enjoys it also.
Moving forward and into the fall I continue to receive requests and ideas. I am filled with optimism with each opportunity to do something I feel passionate about. It is my pleasure to make a garment that will be worn and appreciated.
Among my favorite sewing projects are up-cycling projects. In this time of excess it is wonderful to be able to transform something that already exists into something else. 90 % of my personal projects currently revolve around up-cycling.
Last but not least: Over the past four years I have been working on some customs designs to create a comfortable, functional bra. The studying and attempts haven't stopped as I continue to experiment with different cuts and patterns which I hope will ease tension on the shoulders and back. I enjoy this process. Hopefully one day I'll know of multiple ways to construct and build this item, maximizing comfort and function.
Below are some photos of a few of the patterns and shapes I've created & tried. Some have become favorites, and some have opened doors and ideas for alternative patterns.
