Calgary's Cold & Observations

Past two weeks have been some of the coldest days Calgary's seen so far this winter season.

Days and days of -24- -29 (which feels like -33 and colder still)

I can't complain about it all as I have had a really strong and special presence in my life who has been a constant reminder that I am not enduring this extreme weather or life in Calgary alone.

I have met a few humans I consider truly mesmerizing and magical throughout my life.

I really try not to underestimate how powerful and inspiring and influential people can be to one another.

It's been an ongoing theme of observation for me, and also something I've personal experienced.

My car has been starting up like the gem that it is each day. I've been highly impressed with it's ability to cope with the significant changes in the weather and preform as well as always.

My hot water bag has once again become one of my most popular accessories and things to carry around with me.

It keeps my hands and legs warm when I drive.

I am in a constant state of amazement about how long it can maintain and provide heat.

I watch the locals respond to it in various ways as well.

I'm amazed to see individuals standing outside their cars in -20 + smoking cigarettes. When I see it I can't help but think this weather must be somewhat normal to them. They don't look too taken aback standing out there.

I have also seen so many in various outdoor line ups throughout the city in the same temperatures.

It's something I am having trouble getting used to seeing.

The radio says that even minutes in this extreme temperatures can cause harm and or hypothermia to uncovered skin yet retail workers don't generally seem too bothered to usher excess customers out into the cold to be compliant and wait their turn.

I am baffled by the excess in staff in comparison to the amount of customers allowed into stores.

Feels like it's equal numbers between staff and customers which makes me wonder how a business is to turn a profit.

It has been about a week since Pubs and restaurants have opened up again and it has been very encouraging seeing people out and about.

The cold outside gives me an extra reason to celebrate all things warm inside,
