First week of December

Updated: Dec 26, 2020

Five days into December and the weather has been consistently warm and above positive so far. It's a weird feeling for a December in Calgary. I think it's my first in my five years of being here that I can recall it being so exceptionally mild and warm this time of year.

My drive to work this past month and season has allowed me to enjoy more sunrises than I ever remember enjoying in Calgary in years past as well.

Other seasonal changes include the darkness which continues to hover each morning and the same darkness which then creeps back across the sky as promptly as 5 30 pm each night. It's amazing how quickly I forget how the different seasons impact me.

The past weeks and months have been shadowed and clouded already by all that has been brought to light amidst Covid 19.

My new work schedule has impacted my ability to be creative and work on art projects and concepts with fellow artisans in a way which once felt very familiar.

It feels extremely strange and different to not have several projects and plans on the go.

I am considering the idea of a more personal art project in the mean time, as a means to get back into the creative zone and back into those feelings.

Most of the projects I've been working on lately have been a lot smaller than what I'd normally plan & work away at, but in retrospective they are still projects and I do have fun with them.

Most recently most of my projects have been in the mending and sewing category.

I'm into high wasted jeans and have been for a while so occasionally I'll cut and crop different tops from my wardrobe so that they compliment the outfit more accordingly. Lately I've really enjoyed a more "fringe" look that is created by cutting off the lower portion of the shirt. Depending on the fabric and look of the cut, I sometimes have been leaving it unhemmed and "natural".

I've also had to tend to some other basic wardrobe fixes such as re-attaching some buttons to a jacket and things like that.

I enjoy pulling out my sewing basket and needle to repair garments I might not otherwise know what to do with.

Hopefully someday soon I'll think up a project that will allow me to pull out my serger. I haven't used it in months and I miss creating with it.

It's my first Saturday off since October and I'm using a bit of the day to reach out to/catch up with my friends that I've not seen in weeks or more.

I'm also using a portion of it as a bonus time to catch up on my weekly cleaning around the house and the laundry, food prep. The more I can accomplish today, the more time will be open for more tomorrow.

For now,

here's a photo from a spot in Tim's that I used to enjoy sitting down at in the mornings before work.

It's strange to think they restricted ALL their tables, weeks ago now.

I can't commit to the line up in that place without knowing there's a spot for me to sit down and enjoy the scenery for a moment at the end of the wait.
